Dishonesty. It begins early.
Science! Brain scans!
This is all is very interesting to me. Studies now show how lying begins early and I get that! I was a victim of “lies” upon “lies” when I was a child. It made me feel like I was going insane.
We all tell little white lies. I watched a seven-minute video interview with Dr. Phil and Megan Kelly on lying (below). We all lie. But what about the manipulative liars? What about the people that deliberately lie?
Every parent needs to know that a child’s brain is developing until they are six years old. Now science is showing how the brain adapts to the lying. There has been a large body of research to back this up, and I recently saw a study called “The brain adapts to dishonesty“.
Behaviorally, we show that the extent to which participants engage in self-serving dishonesty increases with repetition.
Chills! They are multiplying!
According to the study, an MRI shows that signal reduction to the amygdala is sensitive to the history of behaviour. Hmm, the amygdala adapts to the lying? Wow. And according to the study, it’s a slippery slope.
This report is such an essential piece of information. It has completely validated my thoughts about what is happening in my own toxic family I was born into today. The report states:
A large body of research demonstrates that the response to an emotion–evoking stimulus weakens with repeated exposure.
Awakening! Yes, I still have those chills! An incredible study from the Nature Neuroscience Published paper.
If you are wondering how people lie without a flinch in their adult years—science can now show how a person may have “adapted” to the lying. The study goes into great detail and I do not profess to know many of these formulas. But, I like to research, and I believe science has a lot of answers to what is going on in our world today.
Please watch my little video of Kermit. He is a very good story-teller.
- This video may be triggering to some who have experienced psychological abuse. They are puppets, but they can still trigger a response.
Below is the Dr. Phil an Megan Kelly interview. It is a good watch!
